STEFAN K. MÜLLER

I was born in 1975 in Villach (Carinthia, Austria) and grew up nearby,  in Finkenstein am Faakersee,  not far away from Italy and Slovenia, surrounded by beautiful lakes and mountains. Already as a youth, I was very interested in Information Systems (IS) as  a means to support business processes and make professional and personal life easier. Therefore, I started to study at the Vienna University of Business and Economics (WU) with a special focus on IS.

In 1996, I developed my first website, as part of a project team, for Bad Kleinkirchheim. In the years to come, I worked as a webmaster, project manager, developer and was mainly concerned with the development of complex websites.

In 2002, I had my first experience with Enterprise Resource Planning  (ERP) systems, in particular SAP, and became a SAP consultant in 2005. The following years I worked on many national, international, and global projects as a functional consultant for finance related areas, as a lead-consultant and as a project manager. Many large scale projects nowadays make use of  programs, overarching several related projects, in order to better manage the interdependencies within the projects and components.

In March 2012, I started my doctoral thesis at the WU-Vienna University of Economics and Business  (department of information systems and operations, institute for information business), with Prof. Jan Mendling and Prof. Edward W. N. Bernroider,  to investigate this contemporary phenomenon.

My vision is still closely linked to my interests as a youth and is related to building a better society through the purposeful and sustainable use of information systems. Furthermore, I want to contribute to strengthen the relationship between the academic and professional sector. One milestone was the completion of my doctoral thesis in June 2016.

In June 2014, I founded SKMis  as a facilitator for my vision, and I continue to work on my research after the completion of my doctoral thesis.
